Volleyball drops conference matches to Xavier
HAWKINS, Texas – The Jarvis Christian volleyball team lost both conference matches against Xavier this weekend as the Bulldogs drop to 9-6 on the season and 2-4 in conference play.
Xavier won Friday night's match in straight sets, then got the 3-1 win Saturday to improve to 13-2 overall this season and 8-0 in conference action.
Game 1
The Bulldogs scored the first point of the match and then alternated points until the first set was tied, 5-5. Xavier then went on a 6-0 run to take the lead and never look back. The Gold Nuggets took the first set, 25-15.
The second set was the same story as the teams went back and forth early in the set before a couple of runs by Xavier helped them pull away. The Gold Nuggets won the second set, 25-13 as they won six of the last eight points to close out the set.
Xavier took control of the third set early by scoring the first two points. The Gold Nuggets again used several runs to take a commanding lead. Xavier served for match point leading, 24-14 as the Bulldogs scored four-straight to try to ignite a rally. That attempt fell short though as Xavier took the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-0.
Asiah West led the Bulldogs with 11 kills in the match. Kaliyah Timmons and Aaronyana Wilson each contributed five kills. Lee-Andra Morin had a team high five digs, while Alyzeh Vakameilalo registered four.
Game 2
Xavier jumped out to the 2-0 lead in the first set and did not look back as they rolled to a 25-12 win in the first set. The second set was much of the same as the Gold Nuggets started fast to take a 6-1 lead. Xavier used several runs throughout the set to roll to a 25-18 second set win.
JCU flipped the script in the third set as the Bulldogs took the early 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs never trailed in the set as they took the 25-21 win to force a fourth set. Xavier jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the fourth set, but JCU rattled off six-straight points shortly after to take a 10-7 advantage. Things went back and forth through the set before Xavier scored four-straight points to win the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-1.
