Bio

Devon Thompson assists with athletic compliance and is entering her fourth year as an assistant professor and advisor of kinesiology at Jarvis Christian University.

In her time at JCU, Thompson has also held the position of head volleyball coach, champions of character liaison, assistant director of athletics, and academic student success advisor for student-athletes. She has also served on several committees on campus.

Thompson landed her first coaching job at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where she worked as an assistant volleyball and bowling coach from 2002-2005. She was one of the youngest coaches in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in 2002. Thompson also worked as an adjunct physical education professor at UAPB.

Thompson left coaching and worked in the health field from 2005-2008. She ultimately made her way back to coaching as she served as the head volleyball coach at Philander Smith College from 2008-2011. Following her departure from Philander Smith, Thompson accepted a position as the athletic director and sports information director at Texas College. After a year in Tyler, Thompson accepted the position as the head volleyball coach at JCU. She served in that role from 2012-2018 before serving as assistant athletic director from 2018-19.

The Little Rock, AR native earned her bachelor’s degree from Philander Smith in 2002. She completed her master’s degree in coaching and administration from Concordia University of Irvine in 2015. Thompson resides in Tyler, TX with her son, Javion.
