Volleyball announces 2022 schedule
HAWKINS, Texas – Jarvis Christian University volleyball announced its 26-game regular-season schedule Thursday, complete with 14 home contests.
The Bulldogs open the season at the Philander Smith Invitational tournament on August 26 in Little Rock, Arkansas. The team then hosts its home opener on August 30 at 6 p.m. against Holy Patriot. The schedule features 14 home matches and 12 events on the road. The season concludes on November 5 at home against Our Lady of the Lake. Postseason play then follows through November.
The volleyball team posted a 9-21 overall record and 4-8 Red River Athletic Conference record during the 2021 season. Head Coach Jasmine Abbit looks to returning players Chloe Buchana, Jai Johnson, Aaronyana Wilson, Johnice Hubbard, and Kiera Grant to lead the way this season for the Bulldogs. Buchanan is a senior libero and is eager to leave her mark this season. Johnson is an outside hitter who had the most kills last season. As a senior, she is ready to build on last season to continue being a critical player on the team. Wilson, Hubbard, and Grant have all been working hard to improve since last season as they look to have a breakout year on the court.
Coach Abbit has a strong group of newcomers this year: Lee Andra Morin (Setter), Asiah West (OH/MB), Amber Cruz (Setter/OPP), Shayla Montemayor (MB/OPP), Ty'Kira Tate, Alyzeh Vakemilo, and Wynter Jones. Abbit is excited to bring these players in and develop them as the next leaders of the volleyball team.
Abbit said she is looking forward to the start of the season, and that she believes her team is ready to compete.
"We put together a competitive schedule," Abbit said. "I feel confident in the talent that we put together as a staff. We're just eager to get after it and compete at a high level."
