Volleyball opens conference play Friday
HAWKINS, Texas – The Jarvis Christian volleyball team will open its 2022 conference schedule at home Friday at 7 p.m. against the University of the Southwest.
JCU is off to a 5-2 record to start the season including wins in the last four matches. The Bulldogs will meet Southwest in the first conference match of the season. The Mustangs are 0-8 this year with an 0-2 mark in conference play with two losses to Xavier.
Jai Johnson leads the conference in hitting percentage at .279. Asiah West ranks in the top five of the conference in kills with 80 so far. Aaronyana Wilson is fifth in the conference in blocks per set, averaging 0.79 through seven games. Kaia Brooks is fifth in the conference in service aces per set with an average of 0.41.
At a team glance, West leads the team in kills. Johnson follows just behind with 74 kills this season. Brooks leads the team in digs with 91. Amariah Kendrick (57 kills) and Chloe Buchanan (50 kills) join Brooks as the leaders in digs for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs average 11.07 kills per set, 10.48 assists per set, 1.79 blocks per set, 1.41 aces per set, and 14.72 digs per set as a unit.
"We are excited for conference play to finally get started tomorrow night," JCU Head Volleyball Coach Jasmine Abbit said. "We are looking forward to a packed house for our first home match of the season, and we are ready to get conference play started so we can work toward achieving our goals for this season."
