Volleyball heads to SAU Tuesday
KEENE, Texas – The Jarvis Christian volleyball team will head west Tuesday for a 6 p.m. matchup with Southwestern Adventist University.
The Bulldogs are 7-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference after defeating the University of the Southwest twice over the weekend. The volleyball team is off to a historic start to the season. JCU has its best record through the first nine games of the season dating back to stats available from the 2008-09 season to now.
Asiah West, Jai Johnson, and Kaia Brooks are some of the top players in the Red River Athletic Conference is various stat categories. West and Johnson rank among the top five in the conference in kills. West has 98 kills this season, while Johnson follows just behind with 93. Johnson is also second in the conference in hitting percentage at .260. Brooks is in the top five for digs with 107 so far this season.
At a team glance, Aaronyana Wilson has 72 kills for the season, behind West's 98 and Johnson's 93. Brooks leads the team in digs, but Amariah Kendrick and Chloe Buchanan have been critical in that area as well. Kendrick has tallied 72 digs through the year, while Buchanan has totaled 66.
Brooks also leads the team in service aces with 12. Johnice Hubbard and Lee-Andra Morin have both contributed nine aces. Kendrick has seven, while Alyzeh Vakameilalo and Buchanan have three each.
Following the trip to Southwestern Adventist, the Bulldogs return to conference action this weekend on the road at Texas A&M-Texarkana. The Bulldogs and Eagles will meet at 6 p.m. Friday and again at 10 a.m. Saturday. JCU will also play Champion Christian at Noon Saturday in Texarkana.
"We had two great matches over the weekend, but we are excited to get back on the court Tuesday at Southwestern Adventist," JCU Head Volleyball Coach Jasmine Abbit said. "I want to see the team build on the success we had over the weekend as we prepare for another conference matchup this weekend in Texarkana."
