Soccer plays host to Dallas Christian on Saturday

HAWKINS, Texas – The Jarvis Christian University men's and women's soccer teams will be back at the Jarvis Soccer Stadium on Saturday as they will host Dallas Christian College for an afternoon doubleheader with the women playing at noon and the men following at 2 p.m.

Women's Soccer

The women's team is coming off the first win of the season as they defeated Central Baptist, 3-1 Thursday afternoon. Angie Rivera, Emmalee Lopez, and Gabriela Benavides all scored one goal in the winning effort as the Bulldogs improved to 1-2 on the season.

Benavides continues to lead the JCU offense as she has scored three goals through three games. The freshman has taken eight shots this season with six of them credited as shots on goal.

Lopez has now scored two goals this season as she has played in two games. The junior has tallied four shots total. Rivera and Kayla Ochoa have each booted in one goal to help account for the team's seven goals on the season.

The Dallas Christian Crusaders are off to an 0-3 start to the season. The lost to fellow Red River Conference member Paul Quinn, 5-0 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs and Crusaders met last season in Dallas as JCU took the 2-0 win.

Men's Soccer

The JCU men's soccer team has earned a win and a draw in the last two games. Kevin Ochoa and Johan Arevalo both scored in the final 10 minutes Thursday as the Bulldogs rallied to force a draw with Central Baptist. The Bulldogs sit a 1-1-1 to start the year.

Arevalo's goal Thursday marked his second of the season. He leads the team in goals with two and shots with 12. The sophomore has notched five shots on goal.

Ochoa, Gerardo Martinez, Sergio Escareno, and Ignacio Gutierrez have all contributed one goal to make up the team's six total goals this season.

Goalkeeper Avramov Vladimir has started all three games for the Bulldogs and has recorded seven saves while allowing four goals in three games.

The Crusaders are 0-2 entering the contest with JCU. In their last performance, they lost to Centenary College, 5-0.
