
WS ends season with loss to LSUA
HAWKINS, Texas – The Jarvis Christian women's soccer team wrapped up the 2022 season with a 2-1 loss to LSU-Alexandria on Saturday afternoon at the Wendon L. Blair Soccer Field.
The Bulldogs finish the season with a 5-11-1 overall record and a 2-8-1 record in conference play. Five wins marks the most wins in a season for JCU since the women's soccer program started in 2014.
Angie Rivera scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs on Saturday. She scored in the 75th minute to cut the LSUA lead in half, 2-1. Mitzy Guereca was charged with the assist. The Generals held on to the lead to take the win.
Guereca finished the season as the team leader in goals as she booted in 11 goals in 14 starts. She was also credited with six assists throughout the season to accumulate 28 points.
Hariklia Sotelo scored five goals this season to go along with two assists. Gabriela Benavides had four goals, while Kayla Ochoa scored three. Emmalee Lopez, Adrea Mata, Rivera, and Evelyn Lopez found the net two times this year. Elvira Torres, Veronica Gutierrez, Brisa Ibarra, Magui Luna, and Leslie Guereca all scored one goal for the season.
As a team, the Bulldogs scored 36 goals this season, which is a new program record. JCU scored 27 goals during the 2021 season and 26 throughout the 2019 season.
Hailey Rivera and Jazul Amaya played the goalkeeper spot for the Bulldogs throughout the season. Rivera earned 14 starts, while Amaya had three starts. Rivera finished the season with 72 saves while allowing 37 goals. Amaya notched 27 saves while allowing nine goals.
