
Women’s Soccer routs Texas College, 8-0
TYLER, Texas – Mitzy Guereca booted in four goals Saturday afternoon as the Jarvis Christian women's soccer team routed rival Texas College, 8-0.
The Bulldogs improve to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in Red River Athletic Conference action. JCU has now won the last three matchups with the Steers.
The high scoring affair started early as Guereca scored in the second minute on an assist by Hariklia Sotelo to give JCU the early 1-0 lead. Veronica Gutierrez would follow that up shortly after in the sixth minute as she scored her first goal of the season. Guereca was credited with the assist.
Elvira Torres also recorded her first goal of the season as she scored on another Guereca assist in the 22nd minute to give JCU the 3-0 advantage. As halftime approached, Guereca booted in her second goal of the day in the 41st minute. Evelyn Lopez followed with a goal in the 44th minute on an assist from Gutierrez to give the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead at the break.
Coming out of halftime, Kayla Ochoa scored in the 55th minute to again add to the JCU lead. Yozary Gonzalez was credited with the assist on Ochoa's third goal of the season.
Guereca struck again in the 60th minute for her third goal of the match. She followed that by scoring again in the 75th minute to secure her fourth goal of the match. Guereca's sister, Leslie Guereca was credited with the assist.
Mitzy Guereca finished Saturday's match with six shots, four shots on goal, four goals, and two assists. She is now the conference leader in goals scored with 10 this season. She also leads the RRAC in assists with five and points with 25. She is third in the shots taken category with 28.
Hailey Rivera picked up two saves in the match through 90 minutes. She ranks second in saves in the RRAC with 34 this season.
