Soccer hosts North American for Saturday doubleheader

HAWKINS, Texas – The Jarvis Christian men's and women's soccer teams will welcome North American University to campus Saturday for a doubleheader at the Jarvis Soccer Field. The women will play at 1 p.m. with the men following at 3:30 p.m.
Saturday's games will be the last tune up for both teams as they prepare to start conference action Thursday, September 22 at Paul Quinn.
Women's Soccer
The women's soccer team is coming off a loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff earlier this week. Brisa Ibarra scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs in the game.
Gabriela Benavides has four goals this season and is tied with four others as leaders in the Red River Athletic Conference. She is also tied for second place in points with nine so far this season. Benavides leads the Bulldogs in goals and is tied with Mitzy Guereca as leaders in points for JCU.
Mitzy Guereca is tied for third in shots in the conference. She has taken 14 shots this season with six shots on goal and three goals scored. Guereca leads the Bulldogs in shots with her 14.
Hailey Rivera is second in the conference in saves with 18 through five games. She has allowed 17 goals and registered one shutout.
Men's Soccer
The men's soccer team sits a 2-1-1 this season and is coming off a 5-1 win against Dallas Christian College last Saturday. Juan Rodriguez, Kyang Dieu Merci, Yuneum Rios, Benito Leon, and Julian Gomez combined to score those five goals as the Bulldogs cruised to the win.
Johan Arevalo is tied for second in the conference with two goals scored this season. He is tied for first in shots with 12 so far. Arevalo leads the team in shots with those 12. He has also registered five shots on goal and accumulated five points this season.
Gerardo Martinez is tied for second in the conference in the assists category. Martinez has picked up two assists this season. He has taken seven shots with six shots on goal and one goal scored to complement the two assists.
Vladimir Avramov has picked up nine saves through four games this season while allowing five goals.
