Soccer faces UHV Saturday

HAWKINS, Texas – The Jarvis Christian men's and women's soccer teams will host Houston-Victoria for conference matches Saturday at the Wendon L. Blair Soccer Field on campus. The women will play at 1 p.m. with the guys following at 3:30 p.m.
Women's Soccer
The women's soccer team sits at 5-5 overall this season and 2-2 in Red River Athletic Conference competition. The Bulldogs are coming off a 1-0 loss to Huston-Tillotson on Thursday.
The Bulldogs will meet the Jaguars from UHV, who are 5-2-3 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.
Hariklia Sotelo, Gabriela Benavides, and Kayla Ochoa have some of the key players for the JCU offense this season and will be critical to the Bulldogs in the matchup this weekend.
Sotelo has found the back of the goal five times this season and has the second-most goals on the team behind Mitzy Guereca's 10 goals. Benavides has booted in four goals this season while appearing in eight matches. Ochoa has scored three times and has been credited with three assists in 10 starts this season.
Men's Soccer
The men's soccer team is now 4-3-2 overall this season and 1-2-1 in conference play after losing to Huston-Tillotson, 4-2 Thursday afternoon.
JCU will meet UHV, who is 5-2-3 so far this season with a 2-0-2 mark in conference action. The Jaguars are coming off a 1-0 win against Texas A&M-Texarkana. Their Thursday matchup at Texas College was cancelled because of bad field conditions.
Johan Arevalo scored two goals in Thursday's loss to Huston-Tillotson. Arevalo is the team leader with seven goals scored this season. He also ranks second in the RRAC in goals scored this season. Arevalo also leads the team in points and shots. His 16 points also ranks second in the conference. He has taken 28 shots so far as he is tied for first in the conference in shots.

"We are ready to get back on the field this weekend against another tough conference opponent," JCU Soccer Head Coach David Martinez said. "Our players are ready for some tough matches as we continue through this conference slate against some good teams this season."
