Soccer travels to rival Texas College

TYLER, Texas – The Jarvis Christian soccer teams will make the short trip to Tyler on Saturday for a conference matchup with rival Texas College. The women play at 5 p.m. and the men follow at 7:30 p.m.

Women's Soccer

The women are 4-4 overall this season and 1-1 to start conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 1-0 loss last Saturday against Southwest. Texas College is 1-4 on the season and 0-2 in conference.

Mitzy Guereca and Hariklia Sotelo rank among the top of the conference in several offensive categories. Guereca is tied for second in the conference in goals scored this season with six goals. She is also third in points with 15 and fifth in shots taken with 22. Sotelo is tied for fourth in goals scored as she has five.

Gabriela Benavides has been another key asset to the Bulldogs' offense as she has booted in four goals this season on 11 shots on goal. Emmalee Lopez, Andrea Mata, and Kayla Ochoa have all contributed two goals each.

Hailey Rivera continues to be a mainstay at the goalie position as she has earned seven starts through the team's eight games. She has registered 32 saves, which is the second most in the conference.

Men's Soccer

The men's soccer team is 3-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in conference after a 5-3 loss to Southwest last weekend. The Bulldogs will meet Texas College who is winless this season at 0-6-2 overall and 0-2 in conference.

Johan Arevalo, Kevin Ochoa, and Kyang Dieu Merci have proved to be some of the key players for the Bulldogs this season. Arevalo and Ochoa have each scored four goals this season which is tied for second most in the Red River Athletic Conference. Arevalo is also third in the points category with 10 points this season. Ochoa is right behind Arevalo with nine points, which puts him tied for fourth in the RRAC. Dieu Merci is second in shots taken with 21.

The trio of Arevalo, Ochoa, and Dieu Merci are the only players that have scored more than one goal for JCU this season. Eight other players have scored one goal this year.
