Soccer meets TAMU-San Antonio Thursday

SAN ANTONIO – The Jarvis Christian soccer teams will head to San Antonio Thursday to continue the conference slate at Texas A&M – San Antonio. The women will play 1 p.m. with the men following at 3:30 p.m.
Women's Soccer
The women's soccer team sits at 5-6 overall and 2-3 in Red River Athletic Conference play after losing at home last Saturday to Houston-Victoria. They will face the Jaguars from San Antonio who are 6-3-1 overall and 3-3 in conference. In last year's meeting, the Bulldogs took a 3-2 win in their first meeting as conference opponents.
The Bulldogs have been held scoreless in the past two matches as Leslie Guereca led the team with four shots through those two matches. Goalkeeper Hailey Rivera has picked up 11 saves in the past two matchups after recording a shutout at Texas College back on October 1.
Men's Soccer
The JCU men's soccer team is 4-4-2 overall and 1-3-1 in RRAC play after also losing Saturday's match to Houston-Victoria. TAMU-San Antonio comes into the matchup with a 3-4-2 overall record and a 1-3-2 conference mark. In their first meeting as conference opponents last season, JCU earned a convincing 6-2 win over the Jaguars.
Johan Arevalo looks to continue his scoring streak as he has scored at least one goal in the past three matches. He has also scored in six of the eight matches he has played in this season. Arevalo continues to lead the team in goals and is tied as the conference leader in goals scored. He ranks second in the conference in points with 18 and leads the conference in shots at 30.
Arevalo scored the only goal for the Bulldogs in Saturday's loss. He also scored both of the team's goals in the loss to Huston-Tillotson last Thursday.
Orlando Rodriguez and Kyang Dieu Merci lead the team is assists with three each. Merci has also booted in two goals this season.
